Race

Join us over at Lisa Jo's House?
She has a rockin' Five Minute Party every Friday!
Five Minute Friday
And if you want to party too, here are the house rules:
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

GO

I am a musician.
I love long, lilting lines of melody
single notes held long and lifting into the space you breathe
as you inhale.

I love weaving colors and images through the round bodies and straight lines that cling the notes to the staff.  I love the small rest periods between sound and the memory of music held in the ear in the quiet.

I don't love frenetic music, chaos running up and down the piano or notes that don't piece together well.
I'm simple that way.

When I look at the calendar, measures racing each other to the end of the music, I have an accelerated meter and a temptation to play ahead of the metronome
a need to be mindful that I could be rushing.

And I am reminded to be a musician means I will play a page of melody, sometimes count many measures before wind blows through my flute, and then need more concentration and endurance to race with others through fast, full passages.  There is always music to make.

STOP

Joining the race with you today, Favored One.  Let's make beautiful music together this day.

    1. Thanks Denise! My calendar is much more crammed these next several weeks than I'm comfortable with. I have to remember though I can't really control what is on it, I can decide how sweet it will sound to others as I live through it. Thanks so much for visiting me today! Blessings!

  3. Oh, Tobi...this speaks to my very soul. Did you know I minored in piano theory in college AND play the flute?!? :)

There is always music to make....I'm taking that with me.

What a beautiful sonnet you wrote here.

    1. Oh. My. Goodness. You are one of those amazing theory brains? College theory was not my fav, but my professor was my organ teacher, so I endured! : ) I LOVE that you play the flute! It is my principle instrument, though I am a pianist and organist as well. I'm not playing currently, which is odd after decades of study, but I haven't figured out how to play and homeschool and write now. I don't allow myself the freedom to stop WORK and pull the flute out. I think it's time to stop viewing it as a privilege and remember its one absolutely beautiful way I worship Him. I hope you are making music in your life. Don't let it drop to the bottom of your to-do list! Love you, Friend!

    1. Thanks, Dolly. For this extrovert who loves words, the five minutes between GO and STOP is never enough. I'm glad I could weave it together a bit, as I'm struggling with the fullness of my schedule these next weeks. I love visiting your space. There is much music there, in your words. Blessings to you, Dolly!

    1. Thanks Mary Beth! I'm still getting the hang of trying to write in five minutes. I can't make it to midnight to write and then the boys and I do school in the mornings before I have a chance to even check out the day's word. I had just looked at my calendar and thought "Heaven help me!" : ) Good thing I know how to play anywhere between Lento and Vivace! LOL. I'm loving getting to know you, Mary Beth, and look forward to irl in a few days.
